AMOA House of Delegates, 2008
This past May, the AMOA held another successful House of Delegates
at the Dearborn Hyatt. This annual meeting is an excellent opportunity for
members to hear what the Advocates are doing throughout the year, but is also
a forum to share new ideas and programs from around the state that could get
some much-needed support from our members. A goal of president, Penny Pesta,
has been to get the word out to the students, interns and residents around
Michigan that the Advocates are an important network of DO supporters.
AMOA Fundraising
The AMOA began a fundraising opportunity this year called Scripcents.
Scripcents allows you to purchase giftcards from merchants such as Macy's,
Marshall's, Lands End and more. AMOA will recieve a percentage of your purchase.
You must use the Not For Profit AMOA code of IDRLRUU.

here to download a flyer or go
directory to Scripcents website.
AMOA Projects
The AMOA is an affiliate of the Advocates for the American Osteopathic
Association (AAOA), and with that collaboration, we are involved with some
amazing projects that extend across the country as well as across our state.
In addition to the programs below, please visit the new AAOA website at www.advocates4dos.org
to learn more about what the Advocates are doing to promote and support osteopathic
medicine.
Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program
The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program remains a recipient of our volunteer
hours and our donated dollars. The State of Michigan has made great strides
in opening the doors of our schools to suicide prevention programs by passing
Public Act 324, effective July 2006. If you have any questions about this
life-saving suicide prevention program or you would like some Yellow Ribbon
“Ask 4 Help” cards please visit www.yellowribbon.org.
Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!
Recycle your used printer cartridges! Have you been trying to figure out a
way to be more “green” in your life? Well the AAOA has found a
place that will take back all of our used inkjet printer cartridges and in
return will give a little money back to put toward the AAOA Special Projects
Fund and the Educational Endowment Fund. If you would like to receive some
recycling bags for your home or office, please contact Penny Evans at the
AOA office at aaoa@osteopathic.org
or by calling 312-202-8192. This might be the one time the Advocates can make
some money without you opening up your checkbook, so you do not want to miss
out on it!
AMOA Membership
Membership is what makes this organization able to succeed. If you are interested
in sharing your talents with the advocates or have questions about membership,
please give the MOA office a call and she will gladly help you get in touch
with the right person! Her phone number is (800) 657-1556. It is as easy as
downloading the membership
form and sending it in today to join an organization that values enthusiasm
and dedication in supporting the osteopathic profession and the DOs in Michigan.
