MOA House of Delegates
The Intern-Resident Committee was formed to create a voice for interns
and residents at the MOA and AOA House of Delegates. Interns and Residents
have 3 votes at the MOA, and 1 vote at the AOA. Our goal is to have representation
from each hospital, which will attend our quarterly meetings and represent
their respective hospital. To be active in the osteopathic community, your
voice is important.
Intern-Resident-Young Physician Program at the MOA
Convention-2008
Getting “Fit for Practice”
The MOA hosted an educational program for interns, residents, and young physicians
on Thursday, May 15, 2008, during its 109th Annual Postgraduate Convention
& Scientific Seminar. Nearly 100 interns, residents and young physicians
attended the program on getting “Fit for Practice”. The Intern-Resident
program “Fit for Practice” included topics on Case Study: Risk
Exposures Identified (American Physicians), Balancing Work & Family (Laura
Mohr) and Employment: Finding a Good Fit (Susan Sanford). New to the program,
were two exhibitors who mingled with the young physicians: MidMichigan Health
and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Various prizes were raffled during the program.
The program was generously sponsored by the MOA and American Physicians.
MOA Intern-Resident Hospital Orientations
The association anticipates 394 new educational members as they schedule
time to present information about the MOA to the new intern-residents of all
osteopathic training hospitals. Letters were sent to DMEs requesting the opportunity
to present a brief PowerPoint presentation highlighting the benefits of MOA
membership for interns and residents during their orientations, which will
take place the last two weeks of June, 2008. MOA is scheduled to present at
24 hospitals, which include Bay Medical Center, Botsford, Community Health
Center, Garden City, Genesys, Henry Ford Macomb, Henry Ford Macomb-Warren
Campus, Henry Ford Wyandotte, Hillsdale Community Health Center, Huron Valley-Sinai,
Ingham Regional, Kalamazoo Medical Center, Mercy General Health Partners,
Metro Health, Mount Clemens, Munson Medical Center, Oakwood Southshore, POH,
Providence, Sinai-Grace, Sparrow, St. John Health Osteopathic Division, St.
Joseph Mercy Oakland and William Beaumont. MOA Past Presidents will be paired
with intern-resident committee members, allowing the association to structure
peer-to-peer recruitment. Membership applications will be disseminated to
the new interns and residents during their orientations, alerting them to
their eligibility to a complimentary MOA membership during their graduate
medical education training. New interns will also receive a copy of “On-Call:
Principles and Protocols”, as a gift from the MOA for joining.
