Capitol House Call Participants Carry MOA Message
Nearly 100 osteopathic physicians and MSUCOM students spent March 18th in Lansing participating in the 11th Annual Capitol House Call and conducting personal meetings with their respective legislators and House Health Policy Committee members to discuss important issues affecting osteopathic medicine. In the individual legislative meetings, participants covered MOA’s position on the:

Smoke-free Michigan
Individual Market Reform (BCBSM)
Uniform Credentialing
Pharmaceutical Gifting

Some Capitol House Call attendees also attended standing committee meetings in the House and Senate while all were in attendance as the Legislature attempted to resolve the problems facing Michigan’s Democratic delegation to the party’s national convention.

Participants also heard from House Health Policy Committee Chair Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) who addressed MOA members during lunch. Rep. Angerer gave an informative and insightful presentation on health issues currently before her committee as well as her expectations on items destined for future legislative consideration. Ms. Angerer also stressed that one of the most important aspects for all officeholders is the opportunity for personal interaction with constituents. She congratulated MOA for holding the Capitol House Call event and, saying, “Constituent interaction is vital to legislative process,” encouraged those in attendance to maintain contact with their legislators when they returned home.
