May 29, 2008 Dearborn, Michigan— Toine Rinne, D.O., of Flint, received a Presidential Citation from the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) in recognition of her role as a pioneer of the osteopathic profession and for her commitment to lifelong medical education as she still attends classes each year at the age of 99 . Dr. Rinne received the citation at the MOA House of Delegates meeting on May 14, held in conjunction with the MOA’s 109th Annual Postgraduate Convention and Scientific Seminar at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan. “The MOA wanted to acknowledge and thank Dr. Rinne for the example she sets for all of us that you are never too old to learn and to work to better the osteopathic profession. At the age of 99, Dr. Rinne continues to acquire close to 70 hours continuing medical education credits each year and to advocate for appropriate patient access and medical care, this MOA Presidential Citation is formal recognition of her commitment to the osteopathic profession and to health care for all,” said Susan Sevensma, D.O., 2007\2008 MOA President. Dr. Rinne received her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1948. After working for three years at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, she moved to Flint and worked for the next 27 years for Flint Osteopathic Hospital. In 1979, Dr Rinne retired from medicine and it wasn’t until this year that she gave up her Michigan medical license but she continues to attend continuing medical education courses at Genesys Medical Center, Flint, each month. The Michigan Osteopathic Association represents more than 7,000 osteopathic physicians and students and promotes osteopathic medicine in Michigan by shaping the health care delivery system to better serve the community.
