May 29, 2008 Dearborn, Michigan— Ernest Schillinger, D.O., of Rochester, received a Presidential Citation from the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) in recognition of his many years of service and commitment to bettering the health of his patients, family and his osteopathic colleagues. He received the citation at the MOA House of Delegates meeting on May 14, held in conjunction with the MOA’s 109th Annual Postgraduate Convention and Scientific Seminar at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan. “The MOA wanted to acknowledge Dr. Schillinger for all he has done to help his patients and the profession to embrace a ‘fit for life’ frame of mind and lifestyle. During his 41 years practicing osteopathic medicine, Dr. Schillinger strived to model healthy behaviors for his patients and colleagues to exemplify the positive impact that fitness, good health practices and osteopathic medicine can have on a person’s quality and longevity of life,” said Susan Sevensma, D.O., 2007\2008 MOA President. “It is with great honor and pride that my efforts as an osteopathic physician -- and upon retirement as a senior Olympian -- served to improve the health and welfare of those around me,” said Dr. Schillinger. “Fitness and a healthy lifestyle are not an attempt to live longer as much as they are to live better and it’s working so far.” Dr. Schillinger received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1957 from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Des Moines, Iowa, and practiced for 41 years as a board certified family practitioner. Currently, Dr. Schillinger is training to compete in the Michigan Senior Olympics (MSO) 2008 Summer Games in his 10th triathalon. The Michigan Osteopathic Association represents more than 7,000 osteopathic physicians and students and promotes osteopathic medicine in Michigan by shaping the health care delivery system to better serve the community.
