Medical Opportunities in Michigan
MOM is a free service of the Michigan Health Council, a nonprofit organization established in 1943. MOM helps physicians and physician assistants connect with the Michigan communities and healthcare employers that need them. Visit their website at www.mimom.org.

Physician Well-Being Program
The Physician Well-Being Committee was the concept of past president Lewin Wyatt, Jr., D.O., whose goal was to establish a Program to assist physicians and physician families struggling with life issues. The purpose of the Program is to provide referral to caring, nonjudgmental, highly competent and confidential resources for physicians and physician families.

One of the goals of the Physician Well-Being Committee is to increase awareness and understanding of physicians and physician families and the general public about problems of quality of life issues, mental health disorders and substance abuse and dependency affecting the physician community. Any physician or immediate family member of a physician may voluntarily call the Program seeking assistance. The MOA will furnish physicians and their families with information regarding resources available to provide counseling and treatment.

The Program will maintain cooperative relationships with other agencies and committees that serve either as sources of referral or in providing help.

Other Physician Well-Being Resources

Physicians devote their lives to caring for others, sometimes to the detriment of their own well-being. Dr. John-Henry Pfifferling – a medical anthropologist – has made a career of coaching and educating physicians on how to handle the unique stressors of their occupation. In the fall of 2004, Dr. Pfifferling presented to the leadership of the Michigan Osteopathic Association his solutions for reducing the prevalence of burnout, suffering, and low self-esteem among doctors while improving physician satisfaction, resiliency and effectiveness.

As a service to the rest of the MOA membership, the MOA MCOP Committee recorded Dr. Pfifferling’s presentation and edited it down into the following three .WAV files.

Michigan Volunteer Registry
The MI Volunteer Registry is a database that functions as a central location for volunteer information. Individuals interested in volunteering will indicate their interests and contact information in this secure, electronic environment. Information can then be queried and appropriate volunteers contacted by authorized personnel via e-mail or text pager. Renew Your License Online
MyLicense has replaced the existing e-license system for renewing licenses online. Many licensees already know the ease and convenience of renewing online. Nearly 20% of our licensees take advantage of our current e-license system. MyLicense will continue this easy online renewal option.

Current licensees will find additional options available and will be able to use MyLicense to request a duplicate license or change their address of record at any time. Licensees will be able to access the system at www.michigan.gov/mylicense.

The exciting new feature of MyLicense is that individuals will be able to apply for their initial health professional license online. At this time, individuals will only be able to apply for Medical Doctor, Clinical Academic Medical Doctor, Educational Limited Medical Doctor and Educational Limited Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery licenses online. However, in the coming months, other applications will be added to MyLicense and eventually, all of our applications for licensure will be available for individuals to complete online.
